We all know by now ZZ was a proflific documentarian. But, she wasn’t alone in her quest to preserve our stories. My mom was a significant contributor to our collective legacy and family archive. When we moved and left ZZ behind in LA, she filled in the gap and continued documenting every day moments. Bedtime stories, candid moments on the way to the store, playing with friends — my mom would bring out the camera, let the tape roll, and mail VHS tapes across the country. Essentially producing her own docu series just for my grandparents. She couldn’t ease my heartache or ship me back to California, but she did her best to help me feel connected to ZZ and for that I am always grateful.
